Add hyperlinks

Hyperlinks in help topics are important means to help the user find and navigate to relevant information. The idea is that the current help page he is on is a significant indicator of what the user is currently looking for, and what extra pages may be helpful. First of all, you will add links to the text. In addition, you can add a Related Topics section.

In most cases you will add links in Design mode. Here there are several ways you can add links:

  1. Drag & drop topics from the Content Tree or Project Folder
  2. Ribbon > Insert > Links > Hyperlink after selecting text

Drag & drop topics from the Content Tree or Project Folder

This method is used for creating hyperlinks to documents in the Project Folder.

The advantage of using drag & drop from the Content Tree is that the caption of the inserted node is automatically set as the hyperlink's text, which often is a good first approximation of the text you actually wanted to use there.

Ribbon > Insert > Links > Hyperlink after selecting text

This method is used for: creating hyperlinks to external files and hyperlinks to bookmarks

  1. Type a text to be turned into a hyperlink
  2. Select the text
  3. From the ribbon, tab Insert, group Links
  4. Type the Url
  5. Press OK
The selected text is now hyperlinked
